Attitude Change Needed
August 29th, 2006
I truly believe that it's far too early to be fretting and wringing our hands in desparation with regards to our St. Louis Rams. I especially am speaking to those in St. Louis, who seem to be the most concerned. Those of us who have been following the Rams from whatever city they've played in seem to have more calm surrounding us and this writer thinks the fans in St. Louis need to take it all in like some of the rest of us do.
Considering what I just said...don't get me wrong, I think there are things that are troublesome and I'll say this over and over again that attitude plays a big part in how well you perform.
Despite the fact that a losing preseason record doesn't count it needs to be understood that players need to care. They need to care about how they perform during these preseason games. It should be important to them even if it doesn't count against their record. Because if it's important to them then their performance should reflect that at some point during the preseason games.
I think too much emphasis has been on when the real season is going to start so they can get down to business than polishing their skills. This should have been the time to be doing this and not going around with the attitude of "Who cares? It's not important. These games don't count against you." Maybe not but what you gain from these games could and should help you perform better during the season. All this talk about the Denver game when they should have been concentrating on how they were gelling as a team and if the game against the Chiefs is any slight indication...then we could be in for some trouble.
Marc Bulger in particular has taken how he approaches the preseason to a new high...completely showing any lack of concern about his performance or anyone else's for that matter. His lazy, no big deal attitude really shows on the field and how can you learn to get on the same page as your fellow teammates with that kind of an attitude? The first game of the season will be too late if he doesn't get it polished before then.
There's other players waiting in the wings behind Marc and he had better not take his starring role for granted. This is no longer the days of Mike Martz when favoritism played a big role on whether or not you kept your starting position.
GO RAMS!!!!
