Bulger is Baaaaaack!
September 25th, 2006

WOW!!! What a game. With what is left of my already screwed up brain, I will attempt to delve into the world of near-death game watching experiences. I think I expended more energy in less time than I ever have watching a Rams game, except for the SB’s, of course.

We Rams fans have suffered through years of major suckage to then be vaulted without warning to the pinnacle of the greatest sport on earth only to be thrown back down to the underbelly of the NFL again. And now this? Queue Slim Shady - “Will the REAL Marc Bulger please stand up, please stand up, please stand up.” Our much maligned Bulger had his first 100+ passer rating and his first 300-yard game of the season, but almost twilight zoned the game away with his fourth-quarter fumble. So which Bulger will we see next week?

The reasons for the confusion? First, we had rookie, untested Marc Bulger, who for the last two weeks couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a BB gun. Second, we now have All-Pro, calm and unnerved Marc Bulger, who yesterday showed why he is the leader of this team.

The late fumble aside, he once again controlled the game, making good decisions and keeping his composure despite having a Center that needs a lot of help and a Tackle who still sees two of everything. Despite the fact that Bulger has NO picks this year, there are many fans throwing him under the bus for the season so far, and that needs to stop. He is learning a new system put into place by a new coaching staff that is now looking for him to no longer freely wing the ball all over the field but manage the game without turning the ball over. STOP SCREAMING “BUT HE FUMBLED!!!” They won, didn’t they?

The way he and Holt just plain abused Matt Ware shows that he knows how to play this game and his position. Last year we all screamed every time he tried to force the ball, resulting in a pick, and now this year he isn’t doing that and it’s still his fault when they only score 16 points? How about a little praise for getting the job done, for getting the hello - VICTORY? Whether it’s 36-14 or 16-14, it’s still a win.

The REAL Marc is back and here to stay. So stop all the whining and enjoy this barely victory. It was hard fought and won in the red zone. Now how long has it been since we have been able to say that?

GO RAMS!
